After a much anticipated wait, the car was packed and ski hitched and 4 days layed ahead of us (Matt, his lady Madeleine and myself)...
About 6pm on the thursday night we hit the road to pick up Madeleine and head down south.
The locations of where we went to unfortunately cant give exact names or surrounding towns...lets just say the coastlines are widely spread and you need to know where you going for the waves and the conditons ;)
We arrived after a long haul and much kangaroo dodging through the forests, as you get closer to the coasts you just start spotting loads of them, had a few close calls but didnt hit any of the them which was good! with a Roo Bar on the front of the car, 2 big spots and a ski you just have to flatten them if they get in the way as to dangerous to swerve out the way...
so we arrived at our first spot and pitched our swags and hit the bed for an early start.
we woke up and headed down to a beach that looked like a scene from Jarrasic park, a long mission to get to the wave but well worth it! Where is it or how do you find it? Let's just say it's in Oz ;)
As we arrived at the spot we were greeted with empty waters and a perfect slab doing its thing at a good solid 4ft over about 1 ft of water. PERFECTION! Every wave just to perfect and just turning itself inside out as it reached the channel.
Matt and i suited up and headed out while Madeleine manned the cameras :) We paddled most the morning and just scooping into the maddest barrels and getting gassed out into the channel, couldnt ask for much more...oh not to forget how super warm the waters were!!
After the session we packed and made a long trip to Albany to catch up with Kade / Merlin and a bunch of friends. We decided to load up the car and head for another paddle at a spot called SandDumps.
On the way down the police pulled us over and gave me a spot fine for being a passenger for not wearing my seatbelt! and getting a AUS$500 (about R3700) fine SUPER BUMMED!
Spent the night in Albany and surfed a spot called Cheynes Bay, fun right hander wedge but didnt stay long as winds changed and Kade spotted about a 3m great white on his first wave, while surfing down the line the thing swam under neath him and headed straight to the shore! Waters being so warm and super clean easy to spot from a mile away...
We headed back to Albany and then packed up and headed down to Margs. After a long drive and about 5hrs on the road we arrived and Paul and Brenda Hannis house to crash in the carvan for the next couple of nights...super amazing family and really good kids and not to forget good old BOOF the dog!
Missioned around and hit up all the spots, met up with Shane and Ryan also Matts friends who joined us along the way. Got some fun waves at Supers, North Point, Gas Bay. Swell failed to rock up as needed so we didnt get to do any towouts and towed the ski all around for nothing...oh well guess you win some and you lose some...
bring the ski back in down at Margs, Matt makes me jump off to hold it so it doesnt bash into the jetty...as i jump in the water Matt starts shouting watch out as thinks its a massive rock, when im standing still and see if moving towards me i jump up and hug the ski for life to see a massive Manta Ray about the size of the ski cruise just underneath me with his big long barb....SHEW! To flippen close for call and scary...haha
none the less this was a good start to the taste of roadies to comes!
thanks to everyone for letting us crash, showing us around and the good times :)
just waiting to get the pics from Madeleiene as my camera hadnt arrived yet. Will post in the next few days....
Next major roady is going to be mid April, with the hitting up of spots like House, Ron Dogs, The Right (if its big enough), Cyclops and many other mutant slabs that havent been mentioned yet...
